Helicopter Spins Wildly into Palm Groves at Frequented Southern California Coast
A helicopter hovering near a popular southern California coastline abruptly started spinning uncontrollably, eventually dropping height and smashing into a line of palm fronds as spectators looked on.
Recordings uploaded on social media show the chopper starting to spin above the beach then plunging near the perimeter of the shore, where it becomes wedged between palm groves and a staircase adjacent to the coastal road.
Rescue Operation Update
The Huntington Beach fire department said five persons were taken to hospital involving two who were in the aircraft and were “rescued from the debris” following the crash on Saturday.
Three people on the street were injured. Information on their condition were not immediately available.
The reason for the accident was not yet disclosed.
Planned Function
The department said the aircraft was connected to an regular “Cars and Copters” benefit occasion planned for the next day.
