UK Military Sites to Host Asylum Seekers in Effort to End Hotel-Based Use
Hundreds asylum seekers may be housed in armed forces facilities as the administration seeks to end the use of hotel accommodations.
Talks are in progress regarding the utilization of two sites - a facility in northern Britain and the other in the southern England - for accommodation for 900 male individuals.
The PM has directed Home Office and Defense Department officials to accelerate efforts to find suitable armed forces locations.
The government has vowed to end the operation of temporary hotel accommodations, which have consumed billions of pounds and emerged as a central issue for immigration opposition demonstrations.
Proposed Defense Sites
Migrants might be housed in the Inverness barracks in Highland region and Crowborough military training facility in southeastern England by the final days of the upcoming month.
Commercial facilities, interim housing and otherwise disused accommodation are also being reviewed for future accommodation.
Government Commitments
Authoritative figures indicated that all sites would meet health and safety standards.
"Our administration is furious at the level of illegal migrants and asylum hotels."
"Our administration will close each temporary accommodation facility. Work are advancing rapidly, with better facilities being brought forward to ease pressure on resident populations and reduce asylum costs."
Present Shelter Figures
Approximately 32 thousand individuals seeking protection are at this time being sheltered in hotel facilities, representing a decrease from a high point of more than 56 thousand in last year.
A recent report found that substantial amounts of government revenue had been "wasted" on asylum accommodation.
Earlier Military Facility Usage
Two ex-armed forces locations - MDP Wethersfield in Essex and former military base in the southern county - are already being used to accommodate asylum seekers after being opened under the previous administration.
The government leader remarked on the developments, stating: "We remain resolved to terminate every refugee hotel. I can't tell you how troubled and alarmed the administration feels that we face a situation as significant as this by the previous administration."
